 About Jaco

I’m Jaco (Yah-koo), a teacher of four years and currently completing my Master of Education in Digital Learning. I believe hard work, consistency, and a love of learning can change lives.

Outside the classroom you’ll find me surfing, running, training at the gym, or spending time with family and friends. My goal is simple: to help young people realise their potential and build the futures they dream of.

This high-energy session helps students define ethical and unethical AI use, recognise the risks and legal consequences of misuse, and differentiate between safe/helpful and unsafe/harmful practices. They learn practical strategies to apply AI responsibly, always with learning at the centre. By the end, students leave with a clear understanding of why prioritising genuine learning over harmful shortcuts is essential for their future growth—in study, work, relationships, and life.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define ethical and unethical AI use.
  • Recognise the short and long-term risks and consequences of AI misuse.
  • Identify the legal implications of AI misuse.
  • Differentiate between safe/helpful and unsafe/harmful AI use.
  • Identify and develop a range of safe AI strategies that support learning.
  • Apply AI-safety principles to current AI tools and platforms.

A practical PD that maps teacher and student do's and don'ts to Australian policy and the law (privacy, copyright, integrity) so staff can explain boundaries clearly, run compliant classroom routines, establish clear learning and assessment policies, and design AI-resilient assessments. Teachers also learn language and examples to confidently persuade students that genuine learning and AI-safe use directly support their future, whether that is career pathways, financial independence, strong relationships, or better mental health, so choosing learning-first habits feels like an investment, not a restriction.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Analyse science-based research and official policy guidance on generative AI and translate it into clear school/classroom policy.
  • Design valid, authentic, AI-resilient assessment tasks and adapt existing ones.
  • Understand privacy-aware and copyright-compliant workflows for classroom AI use to mitigate risk.
  • Model responsible and safe AI workflows.
  • Understand how to develop student metacognition and critical thinking by implementing AI into assessment.
  • Detect and respond to AI misuse using effective processes and principles without over-surveillance.
  • Communicate expectations and supports with students, parents/carers, and leadership to ensure consistency.
